About Us

PROVIDING A HIGHER LEVEL OF SERVICE BY LEVERAGING EXPERTISE IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS

Detech Inc. dba Detech Fire & Security is a Washington State “S” Corp and licensed contractor founded in 1982. The firm specializes in certified Inspection / Testing & Maintenance – Monitoring (ITMM) of Fire / Life Safety Systems for non-residential facilities of all types in accordance with code-enforced requirements as mandated by the local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

Detech Fire & Security is focused on the protection of business operations, assets, facilities and the people within, by detecting threats and implementing technologies to mitigate risk while providing support to emergency responders.

Over the past several decades, Detech has provided solutions for engineered mission critical life safety / asset protection, specialty control & communications applications for thousands of facilities and has also provided support for emergency operations.

The firm leverages this vast experience on every project and for every client, project and operation – from the simplest to the most complex.

Detech has gained a high level of expertise in providing engineered Electronic Physical Security Technologies, Fire Detection & Alarm / Controls for Life Safety & Property Protection, Specialty Communications and Intelligent Automation solutions.

Because Detech is selective in choosing projects carefully to ensure the right fit, the firm’s clients receive the highest level of service and a high degree of attention – by design – since the business purposely limits the amount of projects taken on at any given time.

Detech Fire & Security sees the big picture and every detail.

The firm’s holistic approach to engineered Fire, Security, Communications & Automation systems give the company clear insight and ability to provide an integrated suite of solutions tailored to the unique needs of their clients.

A deep understanding of complex mission critical systems and operational parameters gained on larger more complex projects – as well as the integration of related sub systems – provides the business with a technical background to serve smaller clients with simpler systems at a much higher level than most other firms.

Detech starts with the end in mind…and covers every base in between.

The company’s roots are in the Design / Engineering, Construction, Service, Inspection / Confidence Testing / Certification and Maintenance of mission critical facilities, so the firm knows how to design, build, operate, inspect / test, maintain and monitor engineered facility systems.

This end-to-end experience gives Detech a unique perspective on how to approach projects since the company has an in-depth understanding of every challenge, and they put themselves in the position of their clients to understand requirements from their perspective, then adapt a strategy tailored to solving their specific issues.

Company History

Detech Fire & Security has been in business continuously for over 40 years, to date having completed thousands of major design / build construction projects across virtually every market sector and being involved in an array of emergency support operations.

Detech Inc. dba Detech Fire & Security was originally founded in Alaska as Detection Technology Corp. in 1982 by CEO / Chief Systems Engineer Douglas Gedney who enlisted support from his two older brothers, both of whom also have similar technical / engineering as well as government sector service and contracting backgrounds.

Doug had initially formed Detech in Fairbanks in central Alaska to serve the Department of Defense, Aviation, Industrial, Energy & Government sectors so prevalent throughout The Last Frontier, Canada and the Pacific Rim.

The firm initially specialized in all aspects of engineered facility systems with a focus on Electronic Security, Fire Protection, Specialty Communications, Integrated Systems, Industrial Automation, Mobile Technologies and tactical operations both direct and with contractors supporting the DoD, Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue and other Federal / State and Municipal departments and agencies.

Over time, the firm added operations in Anchorage, Prudhoe Bay, Juneau and Seattle to better serve the Mining, Institutional, Marine, large Commercial clients and an ever expanding Military / Air Force / Naval / Coast Guard and Law Enforcement client base.

In the mid-nineties, Mr. Gedney spun off the Alaskan operations and focused on the Seattle branch in order to better serve the Pacific Rim and the lower 48.

Leveraging their expertise in design / engineering and construction, Detech Fire & Security shifted focus to certified Inspection & Testing / Maintenance – Monitoring (ITMM).

Detech has conducted thousands of ITMM projects and continues serve an ever-growing base of local owner direct clients, in addition to over 30 National Accounts, each with 50-300 facilities in the local market and some with thousands across North America.

40+ Years in the business and thousands of successful projects.
